Rbt Ghana Ltd) is looking for emerging markets with a rapid need for sustainable energy-solutions that can be implemented in short time. After having been contacted by Several companies from Ghana, we have made some basic assumptions that Ghana is a suitable place for medium to large-scale wind energy projects. The electrical energy consumption in Ghana is about 6 TWh in a year. The main source is the hydro power plants with a total installed power on 1200 MW. Ghana has started to build a thermal power plant a 150 MW with Nature gas. The transmission system is a 160 kV system that connects most of customers. There are 69 and 33 kV for the region system and 11 kV for the distribution system.
The consumption is increasing nearly 10% every year and the production of electrical energy is not enough for all consumption. Ghana is importing electrical energy from other countries but they must use load shedding to solve the energy balance. The price Ghana has to pay for the import of electrical energy is about 6 US cent per KWh. So far Ghana have no problem with the peak load due to the big hydro power plants. There is not enough water the whole year. That together makes wind power very suitable in the electrical system.RBT Ltd is a company set up in Ghana by a group of two Swedish and a Ghanaian with more than 20 years of experience from environmental and health issues, developing, constructing, grid connecting and financing utility sized wind-energy projects. The group has been involved in projects exceeding 150 MW altogether.
