- Zamioculcas
It is a tropical perennial plant native to eastern Africa. It has strong, shiny, elliptical leaves which are like tall, green feathers growing out of the pot, which qive it a distinctly quirky appearance. The stalks are fleshy.
It is easy to look after, it prefers to be too dry rather than too wet, so water sparingly. A sign of overwatering is if the lower leaves turn yellow. Feed once a month using weak solution during the growing period. Zamioculcas is very tolerant of different temperatures, prefers semi-shade but can take very low light levels. It performs well in bright light too but will then watering more often.
It is bred by seed or by pups produced by its Mom’s offshoots.
- Pachira
Pachira Macrocarpa is suitable to ornament house and it can absorb the harmful gas and release oxygen. It has vibrant, fat, thick leaves which represent wealth and bountiful harvest, so Chinese people call it good fortune tree and are sure it can bring good fortune home. During the New Year in China, farmers will fasten red ribbons to it to make it look more cheerful and festive.
How to grow bared root Pachira plants. Potting plants asap after receiving bared roots plants. Choose coarse, potting soil PH4-5-6 and good in drainage.
Light: In the beginning of culturing, put plants in half sun area, appro 70 percent shade cloth is ideal for Pachira.
Water and Fertilizer : Keep air moving in the nursery, water immediately after planting, then only water once a week and keep soil little wet but not day out. Too much water will cause rot. New roots will come out after 30-45 days and it is the first time to use fertilizer. USE fertilizer with N:P:K= 1:1:1 every 90 days
Temperature :25-28 °C or little lower is OK. Avoiding wind and frost damaged during winter season. Cut old leaf stems off in early of each spring to get new and healthy beautiful leaves. The shape will be better too. The best spot indoor should be bright more than 30 days darkness will make plants longer stem and smaller leaves. When plants get weaker, display plants in brighter position will get nice leaves again. Don’t put plants under direct sunlight suddenly to avoid leaf be burned and damaged.
Pachira is very durable indoors. It is tolerant to low light and dryness. It is easy to take care of them, watering them once a week.
