This versatile and hardy perennial is easy to grow in any well-drained, average (even poor) soil. Foliage is evergreen that is formed of rosettes of many thick, purple-tipped leaves. The rosettes of succulent leaves form a spiral pattern making hen and chicks a unique plant. Plants grow to a height of about 3-4" and in mid-summer produce flowers in shades of rose, red and purple that rise above the foliage. New offsets will crowd around the parent plant and may be divided to produce new plants (hence the name "Hen and Chicks").

Hen and Chicks is a multi-purpose plant - great for rock gardens, terraces, containers, ground covers and even as a great indoor houseplant! They require minimal care, requiring only full sun and good drainage to thrive. They actually grow better in poor, sandy soil. Hardy in sub-zero temperatures and able to withstand hot summer conditions. They are very hardy, almost impossible to kill!
