First used in Philip Johnson¡¯s New York apartment, the Barcelona Couch is defined by the same purity of composition and material luxury exhibited by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe¡¯s Barcelona Chair for the 1929 German Pavilion. Produced by KnollStudio to the designer¡¯s original specifications since 1953, the Barcelona Couch is beautifully upholstered in premium, full-grain Spinneybeck Volo leather. The broad cushion¡¯s tufted surface is created using 72 individually cut, hand welted and hand tufted squares cut from a single hide and sewn with leather-covered buttons. The cushion is attached to the hardwood frame using 11 thick cowhide leather straps, which rest on protective rubber webbing. The leather bolster cushion is secured to the cushion platform with snap-locking straps.
