Traditional packings are mostly fiber with added lubricants that can be squeezed, cooked or washed out, resulting in out-of position lantern rings, over-compressed packing and sleeve wear.

Typical Stuffing Box: A typical stuffing box requires leakage and/ or flush-water to dissipate heat, creating costly housekeeping problems, loss of product and/ or loss of flush-water. Additional rings cannot be added without affecting position of lantern ring.

Slade Packed Stuffing Box: In most applications, a Slade packed stuffing box can be run without flush-water and/ or with virtually no leakage. In many applications, both No-Flush & No-Leak are possible! Additional rings can be added as needed.

Seals Rotating Equipment:

Whereas most pump packings are largely abrasive fibers with added lubricants that can be squeezed, washed or cooked out, Slade 3300G utilizes the self-lubricating qualities of the very best natural, exfoliated graphite.

Incorporating just enough temperature and chemical resistant â carbon fiberâ to make very high tensile strength yarns, Sladeâ s patented technology allows the braided packing rings to transfer frictional heat away from high speed shaft sleeves, eliminating the need, in most cases, for cooling water.

Since cooling or flushing is not typically required, there is no need for lantern rings. This eliminates the concern of the lantern rings being adjusted out of position, flush water ports becoming plugged, or sleeve wear caused by the corrosive nature of highly oxygenated water on hardened sleeves.

Installation:

Check clearances and dimensions
Best to use no more than 5 rings in stuffing box ( use Slade spacer bushings to reduce rings)
Cut rings on the bias ( 45Â ° angle) , stagger joints
Compress each sealing ring at least 25% ( especially the first ring) . Do not compress spacer bushings.
Loosen gland to allow it to relax
Snug the gland bolts and start the pump

Due to its patented construction of natural, expanded graphite yarns, Slade 3300G turns the stuffing box into a heat sink, conducting heat away from shaft, in many applications, eliminating expensive leakage previously needed to cool the stuffing box.

Can Be Operated Flush-Free in Most Applications
Slade 3300G conducts heat away from the shaft/ sleeve, in most cases making flush unnecessary. If media has particulate contamination, a very mild flush should be all that is required.

No flush-water translates into:
Exceptional savings, typically 1/ 2 cent per gallon, or $ 13, 000 annually ( U.S.) ( based on 5 GPM flush system)
No fear of flush-water system becoming plugged or experiencing loss of pressure

Emission tests, performed at a leading petroleum company' s test facility in Florham Park, NJ ( using PERF procedures and standards) , show that Slade patented, reinforced braided graphite foil outperformed standard die-formed graphite sealing rings.

Corpus Report:
A major Gulf Coast, USA refinery reports that 96% of the 325 valves packed with slade reported zero ppm emissions. Most of these valves were packed in the field by inexperienced installers.
Cambridge Report:
A major USA West Coast refinery reports that after 5 years, 96% of the 282 field installed valves were at zero emissions and that the 3, 000 psi hydrogen control valves never went over 9 ppm during the 5 year test. Most of these valves were packed in the field.

Reinforced with Flat Metal Leaf Springs( a) of stainless steel, encapsulated in a thick vermiculated graphite foil jacket ( b) . These metal reinforced graphite strands, Sladeâ s weaving yarns, are woven into a tough, resilient cloth-like sheet ( c) .

The flat metal leaf springs at the core of each strand crisscross each other throughout the cloth to impart an enduring resiliency.

The woven sheets are compressed to increase density to form a leak tight gasket sheet.

Advantages
Flat metallic leaf springs, jacketed with graphite foil, make this 80â x 80â sheet the most resilient gasket you will need.
It takes physical abuse like no other graphite foil, handling and feeling like tough leather.

    Seals Rotating Equipment

    Whereas most pump packings are largely abrasive fibers with added lubricants that can be squeezed, washed or cooked out, Slade 3300G utilizes the self-lubricating qualities of the very best natural, exfoliated graphite.

    Incorporating just enough temperature and chemical resistant ‘carbon fiber’ to make very high tensile strength yarns, Slade’s patented technology allows the braided packing rings to transfer frictional heat away from high speed shaft sleeves, eliminating the need, in most cases, for cooling water.

    Since cooling or flushing is not typically required, there is no need for lantern rings. This eliminates the concern of the lantern rings being adjusted out of position, flush water ports becoming plugged, or sleeve wear caused by the corrosive nature of highly oxygenated water on hardened sleeves.

    3300G – Slade’s Best All Purpose Pump and Valve Packing
    Reinforcement: Corners and yarns of graphite foil reinforced with high strength structural carbon fiber
    Temp: Mild Oxidizers to 1800°F/ 1000°C (for temperatures over 1000°F/ 540°C, consult the factory)
    Pressures: Valves to 5000 PSI/ 350 BAR without end-rings
    Pumps: Flush-free in many services to 4800 FPM (1400 m/ min)

    Installation:

    Check clearances and dimensions
    Best to use no more than 5 rings in stuffing box (use Slade spacer bushings to reduce rings)
    Cut rings on the bias (45° angle), stagger joints
    Compress each sealing ring at least 25% (especially the first ring). Do not compress spacer bushings.
    Loosen gland to allow it to relax
    Snug the gland bolts and start the pump

    3300GLC: Low chloride for nuclear service
    3300GLS: Low sulfur for nuclear service

    Due to its patented construction of natural, expanded graphite yarns, Slade 3300G turns the stuffing box into a heat sink, conducting heat away from shaft, in many applications, eliminating expensive leakage previously needed to cool the stuffing box.

    Can Be Operated Flush-Free in Most Applications
    Slade 3300G conducts heat away from the shaft/ sleeve, in most cases making flush unnecessary. If media has particulate contamination, a very mild flush should be all that is required.

    No flush-water translates into:

    Exceptional savings, typically 1/ 2 cent per gallon, or $13, 000 annually (U.S.) (based on 5 GPM flush system)
    No fear of flush-water system becoming plugged or experiencing loss of pressure
