In short, The process takes place firstly by machining raw material which is usually from alloy (hard) , then it goes through heat treatment (deep hardening in the closed furnace + High tempering). Final process is to grind the necessary surface for the bearing / shaft palcement, including gears surface (spiral is also possible).
