PTFE has a wide range of practicable temperature from -180¡ãC - +260¡ãC and a wax-like surface to which anything hardly sticks. PTFE has the lowest coefficient of friction of all known solid materials. It has the best electrical properties of all plastics.

    Apparent density ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡.. 2.10-2.30 g/cm3
    Tensile strength (min) ¡¡¡¡¡.14.0 MPa
    Ultimate elongation (min) ¡¡¡¡.. 140%

    PTFE Rod and Low Friction:
PTFE Rod has a very low co-efficient of friction, in fact PTFE has a friction co-efficient so low that it has made it into the record books for the lowest of any solid material known to man and similar to that of ice.
    PTFE Rod for Temperature Extremes:
Another important advantage that PTFE Rod has is its remarkable performance at high temperature extremes. PTFE Rod is one of the very few plastics that can withstand extreme high temperatures of over plus 250¡ãC and PTFE can also withstand extreme low temperatures of well under plus 200¡ãC. This makes PTFE pretty unique amongst other engineering plastic materials.
    PTFE Rod for Electrical Insulation:
If you are looking for high levels of electrical insulation, PTFE Rod is one of the best materials out there, although other materials such as PVC Rod are more popular, it can not perform at the same levels as PTFE Rod and would ultimately fail where PTFE will still provide the performance.
PTFE Rod for Acid and Chemical Resistance:
One of the other important areas where PTFE Rod is excellent is its chemical and acid resistance. This is often overlooked but PTFE can provide excellent high resistance against quite aggressive acids and chemicals at quite high concentrations and at higher temperatures. Although there are materials on the market that are more well known for the application PTFE Rod can offer advantages that some of these other materials can not.
    PTFE Rod and Adhesives:
Although PTFE is extremely slippery, there are specialist adhesives produced specifically to bond PTFE to PTFE and also to bond PTFE to other materials. This usually involves a primer which etches the surface of the PTFE Rod to prepare the initial surface and the adhesive in then applied to complete the bonding process. It may be more complicated in terms of having a two part process than other bonding systems but if you require any assistance with adhesives for PTFE Rod,
    PTFE Rod Important Details:
There are a few characteristics regarding PTFE that may be helpful to be aware of:
    PTFE Rod Bonding:
As mentioned earlier, bonding PTFE Rod can be a little more involved than potentially with some other plastics.
    PTFE Rod Weights:
PTFE is much more dense than most other plastics which will increase the weight over other engineering plastics.
    PTFE Rod Surface Softness:
PTFE Rod is softer than other engineering plastics such as Nylon etc, this may cause damage to the material if gripping or clamping in machine tools such as lathes or milling machine vices. Threading PTFE Rod would produce threads of limited strength.
    PTFE Rod and Thermal Expansion:
PTFE Rod has a slightly higher than usual thermal expansion rate which means that components will increase or decrease in size due to temperature fluctuations.
    PTFE Rod and Availability
Extruded PTFE Rod is available in sizes ranging from 4mm diameter up to a maximum diameter of 120mm, this extruded PTFE Rod is manufactured by forcing the polymer through dies to produce a product that is normally 2000mm long. Moulded PTFE Rod is available in sizes ranging from 56mm diameter up to a maximum of 500mm diameter. The largest sizes of moulded PTFE Rod are produced in shorter lengths due to manufacturing constraints and weight due to the moulding process.
    PTFE Rod with Solvents
PTFE is able to withstand most solvents and can resist the normal attack that most solvents will cause potential damage to other plastics.
    PTFE Rod Surface Finish
The surface of PTFE Rod is very smooth and is difficult to get water to stay on the surface of the material. This can be altered if required by a chemical etching process to allow both water and adhesives to ahere to PTFE.
    PTFE Rod and Flexibility
PTFE is very flexible and does not normally break under normal bending stresses at room temperature.
    PTFE Rod and Laser Cutting
We would not advise that PTFE Rod is to be laser cut, it would very likely be injurious to health as the fumes and dust that emit from the PTFE Rod as it is being cut by the laser is quite likely to be dangerous.
