Oats that are found in herbal supplements are derived from the same plant as those served at the breakfast table. In fact, ¡°sowing your wild oats¡± is an outdated phrase, since wild species have been tamed and are cultivated worldwide. The seeds are also rich in iron, manganese, and zinc, and oat straw is high in silica. Its high fiber content is thought to contribute to the cholesterol-lowering effect of eating oatmeal on a regular basis.
