Chromatography is a technique of separation of molecules based on differences between the movement patterns of mobile phase and stationary phase to separate components ( molecules) that are in solution. Molecules dissolved in mobile phase, will pass through the column that the stationary phase. Molecule that has strong ties with the column will tend to move more slowly than molecules that bind weakly. With this, various types of molecules can be separated based on the movement of the column.

After the component was eluted from the column, the component can be analyzed by using a detector or can be collected for further analysis. Some analytic tools can be combined with separation methods for analysis of on-line ( on-line analysis) such as: a merger of gas chromatography ( gas chromatography) and liquid chromatography ( liquid chromatography) with mass spectrometry ( GC-MS and LC-MS) , Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy ( GC-FTIR) , and diode-array UV-VIS ( HPLC-UV-VIS) ...
